Breast Cancer

Breast cancer is the commonest cancer among women. 1 out of 8 women are at life time risk of developing breast cancer. In India incidence of breast cancer is increasing with more number of younger female are getting affected. The symptoms of breast cancer includes:

  • Lump in breast
  • Discharge from nipple
  • Change in size and shape of breast
  • Change in overlying breast skin

Symptom due to other organs involvement like breathlessness, jaundice etc.

Patient with any of these symptoms should undergo triple assessment i.e clinical evaluation by a breast surgeon, Ultrasound & Mammography of breast along with needle biopsy to confirm the diagnosis. Treatment includes multimodality care including surgery, chemotherapy, radiotherapy, targeted therapy or hormonal therapy depending upon the stage and patient risk category.

Prognosis of breast cancer is good in early stages with majority of patients get cured. So early detection of this disease by community awareness & other screening modalities should be the goal to achieve the optimal outcome.
